Both these types mostly uses in the Standard reports parameters. Both these types have similarities and differences too. 5 Major Difference between special and pair value sets in oracle apps
1. Both these types related to the Key Flex fields in Oracle apps. We want
to show the Complete Flex Fields combination in the Concurrent Programs then We
use these Value sets.
2.In Pair Value set , We can Specify Range of the concatenated Flex
field segments as parameters to the report but in Special Value Set we uses
Entire Key Flex fields as its Parameter Value.
3.Paid Value set specially uses for to use Key Flex fields Structures
as its Parameter Value in the Concurrent Program Parameters but Special Value
set have many other advantages too. We can also use the Special Value set for
Validation Purpose. With the Help of Special Value set we can execute the
Custom PLSQL code and put the validation on the User Entered Parameter Value.
4. Special and pair value sets provide a mechanism to allow a "flexfield-within-a-flexfield".
These value sets are primarily used for Standard Request Submission parameters.
You do not generally use these value sets for normal flex field segments.
